*Sound waves make the invisible visible!
This exhibit is about the nature of sound and
vibrations. Sound is emitted into the material to
produce, wave patterns making the invisible sound
visible! The materials jumping patterns are
greatest where the disturbance in the air is most
intense and shows at resonant frequencies.
These are formed by the sound waves reflecting and
then combining with the new waves
within the tube.
Key Messages and Learning
Outcomes
Sounds are made when objects vibrate but the
vibrations are not always directly visible.
Explore the relationship between the loudness of a
sound and the amplitude of the vibration causing
it.
Explore the relationship between the pitch of a
sound and the frequency of the vibration causing
it.
Sound travels as a wave and it needs a medium to
travel through. Sound can travel through varied
mediums.
